The next part of Day 6 of our trip in Iceland is up and available to view here. This one is short, but so scenic if you like snowy mountains, icy lakes, and quaint villages. We follow the mountain pass road to Seyðisfjörður in East Iceland.

Before you get very far in the video, you’ll see a blue sign with current weather and, importantly, wind speeds. This pass can be treacherous in bad weather, so be sure to check your conditions before heading out. Otherwise, get your camera ready for beautiful scenery. We drive around the town, see Seyðisfjarðarkirkja (aka the Blue Church), visit the campground bathroom, ponder purchasing the rusted kiosk shack we pass by (hence my comment at the beginning of the video), and explore the cemetery.

This town is busy in summer with ferries and other ships, tourists, and seasonal activities. Notably, the Smyril Line has a ferry that goes between Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland. That ferry is my next dream trip!
When we went in October of 2024, the village was quiet, tranquil, and at ease. The town seemed to settle around us as we took in the snowy mountains, the lake, and the charming buildings. I am sure it is bustling in summer, but we rather enjoyed the low key pace at the start of winter.
We finished our visit to Seyðisfjörður with a stop at the cemetery. After paying our respects, we move on in the next video back through the mountain pass, to a lagoon, and a trip through Egilsstaðir before witnessing the most gorgeous sunset over the mountains and the Northern Lights before calling it a day. See you then!
