East Part 2

Our next video is out, and there really isn’t too much to say except you can really see the landscape changing now from what we saw in the south! Rugged coasts and rainbows dominate this video, and again, I think this was our favorite day of driving.

Waterfalls trickling down the mountains in the distance

One thing to keep in mind is that we are on hour two of this day’s drive, and we’ve not yet seen a rest stop or water closet. I have asked my husband about ten times if we can pull over if we see a bathroom at this point. In some areas of Iceland, facilities are few and far between.

My youngest child brought to my attention that they didn’t know the white streaks down the mountains were waterfalls! Iceland is known as the land of 10,000 waterfalls, and it is true. The camera didn’t even capture all the ones we saw off to the sides.

One thing I do want to mention is that in this video you will see a couple of cars parked in the road while the people take photos. This type of behavior is so dangerous. Driving in Iceland is distracting. You’ve got weather. You’ve got dramatic, other-worldly landscapes. You’ve got blind hills and curves coupled with a fairly narrow road and an unfamiliar vehicle. If we hadn’t been paying attention, you can see that these encounters could have ended badly. Please only stop when you have space off the road. Iceland has plenty of scenic pullovers, so don’t fret that you’ll miss a photo opportunity.

Enjoy the ride as we continue our drive towards Egilsstaðir!
