Boston Venues: The Crystal Ballroom

Personally, I love going to live entertainment. Stage performances, concerts, comedy shows, and even puppet shows fill my art-loving spirit with joy. I’m lucky to live near Boston because we get so many types of concerts, musicals, plays, and shows in our area. My family and I have been to several shows over the years, so our next few posts will highlight our experiences in different venues.

Located in Davis Square in Somerville, MA, The Crystal Ballroom is one of my favorite types of venues: intimate. While a huge stadium event can be really fun, it can also be really exhausting. Smaller venues feel more like I am hanging out with the artists I am there to see. I also usually get better accessibility accommodations in smaller venues, and The Crystal Ballroom was no exception.

I have been to a book reading and a concert at this venue, and I’ve had a great night both times. We saw Bob and Erin Odenkirk on tour with their children’s book, Zilot and Other Important Rhymes. The venue had seats for all ticket holders, a well organized room with an unobstructed view for everyone, and the sound was at a perfect level for a book reading. It was a quiet show that ran smoothly and even included a book signing at the end.

A great view from the audience!

I also saw Princess Chelsea in concert at The Crystal Ballroom. This time, there were not seats for everyone, but they did have both tables and chairs set up for those in need of ADA seating. The staff treated us with kindness, got us seated very quickly, and were clearly having a great night at work. I love when the staff seem happy at a venue! Again, the venue ran a very smooth show and the layout of the room was easy to navigate. In addition, there were always staff members around to answer questions or provide assistance.

The Crystal Ballroom is very easy to get to as the MBTA red line Davis Square stop is only a few steps away. Street parking is sometimes available, but you may have trouble finding a spot that is open and for the public. This venue does not have a dedicated parking lot. It does, however, have plenty of dining options nearby. If you enjoy smaller shows while in the Boston area, be sure to check out The Crystal Ballroom event page!
