Ólafsvík

Our next video is out, and you can watch it here. We move on from a drizzly, snowy Kirkjufell to the town of Ólafsvík. Once a port of trade between Iceland and Denmark, Ólafsvík still offers much for the tourists to do. Scenic beaches, hiking, rest areas, food stops, gas stations, this town is a great place to stop and take a break on your tour of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

You’ll notice we drive by the N1 station and go straight to the Orkan. No real reason for this decision except that very early on our trip, a nice Icelandic man helped us at an N1 station. He was excited to teach us how to get gas and to speak English with us. He had some very vocalized views on the company that is N1, and his comments stuck with us the whole trip. Are they true? Who knows, but he was super nice.

Anyway, we got a delicious pylsur at this particular Orkan. It was fried instead of steamed, and it had different toppings than the usual mustard and remoulade. You can find lots of interesting foods and unique takes on the hot dogs at gas stations around the country. If you go, do go inside and check out the offerings on your adventures.

Unfortunately for us, the day we had to explore the peninsula had terrible visibility. But, we still had a great time. Enjoy this short video as we swing around the northern end of the peninsula. The landscape changes several times in just this half hour, reminding us that the peninsula really is Iceland in miniature.

At the end, my dear husband has fun pretending he can’t park while I am begging him to please choose so I can run inside and use the restroom. What a goof.

We are still on schedule to finish our Icelandic video project by the end of the year. Next year, we will begin our Turkish and Bulgarian videos! We are so excited to share those with you all. Happy adventuring!
