We took a whirlwind road trip this week from Eastern Massachusetts to Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania. It was a little over 5 hours each way, completed in about 30 hours. We were taking our daughter and one of her besties to work at the Colossalcon held at Kalahari resort. While the young adults are enjoying their balcony suite and catered food, my husband and I took advantage of a free hotel room a few minutes away thanks to points on my credit card.
It was a very fast trip. We don’t have a lot of extra money right now due to unemployment, so we made the most of it while still being economical. We packed snacks from home which is a huge savings. The service areas are always overpriced when it comes to snacks. We did splurge on some delicious salted caramel iced coffee and strawberry hibiscus tea from a locally owned stand.
We did 5 states the first day (NH, MA, CT, NY, PA) and we returned through New York and Massachusetts. There are plenty of places to stop, but if you’ve never driven in New England, you’ve got to be prepared for traffic. Especially near Boston, and on I-495, and in fall, or bad weather, or the when the sun is too bright (see Solar Glare). I see people planning road trips and not allowing for the travel times with traffic. Traffic and construction. Did I mention traffic?
By the time we got everyone settled and we were at the hotel, we were too tired to go do any meaningful sightseeing. I joked that we were hiking in the parking lot, but I’ll share my photos with you because really…you’ve got to find joy in the small things. The joy in the every day things. The beauty in whatever is around you. So I’ll leave you with some of the pictures from our road trip. Take care of yourselves, and happy adventuring!
